There was very little moss around, and all that there was seemed to be this sort of hairy stuff, rather than the dense green stuff you get in damper climates. I don't know what this is; it's not old-mans-beard, because that's in the next shot.

This is old-mans-beard. Apparently you can eat this stuff if you're desperate; the yellow one in the previous and next shots is not edible, though.

More moss growing on the end of a log. Lens: vivitar 55mm macro.

Theoretically I'm in this shot somewhere. I'm not sure where, though; Andy took the camera, went on ahead up the trail, and tried to get me in frame. Our best guess is that I'm off the bottom. This is a good shot of the shape of the ride -- it's pretty flat overall, because it's by the side of a lake -- but there's still plenty of little ups and downs to keep things interesting.

Some bits of the path were pretty tame and flat. In general, the path gets more bumpy and technical as you get further down (further from the parking lot, so fewer people have walked down there) but this bit just happened to calm down for a while.

The river leading into the lake, taken from a bridge along the way. Lens: vivitar 17mm, thus making everything look a lot more whizzy than it actually was.

Early on in the ride, the path is fairly high up above the lake, on a shale slope. As we rode along, we came across some other passers-by. Lens: kitstar (who?) 100-300 zoom.

There's a fair variety of trees along the path; evergreens, pines, spruce, some with more leaves, some, as here, with less.

Some trees just don't want to change colour for autumn, despite the vote apparently going against them from the other vegetation..

I didn't notice the cross shape of the sky until I looked at the thumbnails of this one when putting the page together. Weird! If I were taking it again, I think I'd push the exposure a bit more to get more detail in the trees rather than the sky.

Will enjoying the lakeside view (or possibly just wondering if I'm going to get out of his way in time).
